The Animated Series' Creator Is Aware of Fans' Season 2 Bingo Cards — And She Has Good News
The much-anticipated Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
The first season presents a large cast of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other accompanied by musical numbers about their clashes, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Will a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner stated recently. "But I believe that me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by the production companies, which finance the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how fast the new season moves, and how many of what they're anticipating happens this season.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible disclosures, some fascinating backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — especially in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans create a bingo card about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
